Hi Everyone,
As we wrap up October, I wanted to take a moment to check in and reflect on the work
that we have been doing as a community since the beginning of the new year. Please
see some highlights below:
● Our school-wide attendance is at about 96%! We are well above the district
average. As you know, the first step towards engagement is ensuring that
students are present, so this is a tremendous accomplishment for our
community. We will continue to work to get this number to 100%!
● We successfully engaged many of our families in information sessions so that
families learned more about the day-to-day work at the Perry. If you did not have
a chance to attend one of these meetings for your child’s homeroom, please
reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher to learn more!
● The School Site Council and School Parent Council elections were held in late
October. We are excited to have a team that is a strong representation of our
school community. Please see the School Site Council and School Parent
Council tabs on the website (to be updated shortly) to learn more!
● Our staff has engaged in numerous learning opportunities since the start of the
year as we continue to become more student-focused and standards-aligned in
our work with students, families and one another. Some of the work we have
engaged in includes but is not limited to: sharing our “Why” for why we do the
work we do every day, understanding microaggressions and how they can play
out in the classroom everyday and a deep dive into the book Cultivating Genius
by Gholdy Muhammad as we continue to find ways to affirm student culture and
identity in daily learning. We are excited to engage with families in some of our
learning moving forward! More information to come about this!
And as we head into November, here are some of the upcoming happenings that we
cannot wait to engage in as a community:
● Doc Wayne Remote Recess will re-launch this coming week for Grades 1-5 with
a new look and tons of fun! Junior Coaches from the Middle School will be joining
in to work with our kiddos shortly after. We cannot wait to re-engage with our
amazing partner Doc Wayne!
● On Tuesday, November 17th, there will be an opportunity for families to dig into
the learning that we have been digging into as a staff. More information to come
about this exciting opportunity!
● On Wednesday, November 25th, we will have our first Perry Pride Assembly of
the year with our Perry Sharks! We will use this time to recognize our students
for truly modeling what it means to be a Perry Shark!
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions. Despite the
challenges that our society is currently facing, I am confident that we as a community
can continue to provide authentic and engaging learning opportunities for all of our
students. We will continue to Work Hard, Respect All and Have Perry Pride!
