A few updates and reminders...
South Boston Street Festival
Just a quick reminder that the 22nd annual South Boston Street Festival takes place this Saturday, September 17th on East Broadway (between I and L) from 11 AM and 4 PM.
Save The Date: Fall Family Open House: October 6th from 4:30 to 6:00 PM
We will be hosting a Fall Family Open House on Thursday, October 6th from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. This will be an opportunity for families to walk around the school, visit their child's classroom and see what's happening at the Perry each day. After the pandemic regulations of the last few years, we are excited to have an opportunity to welcome families back into the school on October 6th!! (Please do note that this is not intended as a time for one-on-one conferences with teachers.)
Doc Wayne Startup
On Wednesday, September 15th, Doc Wayne started working with our students during recess time. Doc Wayne is a powerful partner who provides opportunities for structured play during recess while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, empathy and inclusion.
Welcome To The Perry Team
We are excited to announce that Mr. Fernando Gutierrez will be joining us starting this week as our Dean of Students. Mr. Gutierrez has served as an elementary paraprofessional within BPS for the past five years -- first serving in a dual language program in East Boston and then serving for the past three years in an Emotional Impairment program at the Edison School in Brighton. Prior to his work with BPS, Mr. Gutierrez served as a residential counselor at the Home For Little Wanderers; an outreach worker in the Chelsea Public Schools; and as an advisor for the GEAR UP program in East Boston. Mr. Gutierrez's work will be focused on supporting and strengthening the student climate at the Perry. Please extend Mr. Gutierrez a very warm welcome!
Transportation Update
The good news: all buses have arrived each morning and afternoon so far, and we have not yet had an "uncovered bus." The bad news: we are still dealing with buses that are arriving 20 - 30 minutes late at times. Additionally, there is a shortage of bus monitors in the district, and that has impacted certain students and families. We are pressing BPS for improvements on both of these fronts.
Two quick asks regarding transportation:
(1) If you are coming to pick up your child for dismissal, please let us know before 3:30 PM
(please contact both the teacher and the main office in advance).
(2) If your child is only to be using the bus on certain days, please send that information to us in writing as soon as possible. This helps greatly in ensuring an organized and efficient dismissal for all. Thank you!
